"GUPPIES"

Baltic Gallery of Contemporary Art
Slupsk, Poland 2002

Two fish tanks were installed in the gallery space. One inhabited by female and second by male guppies - one of the most popular fish among domestic hobbyists.
Maintaining all the life support necessary to sustain guppies’ habitat turned out to be a challenging task for the gallery staff. Fortunately all the fish survived two weeks of being displayed in the gallery and were adopted by the director afterwards.
My appearance at the opening was an integral part of the piece. I was wearing my old comfy slippers while attending the fish (feeding, replanting, etc).
The project was one of the attempts of a young adept to toggle with the sterility of gallery experience and a playful take on the aesthetics of conceptual art
